Blue Cat update now includes VST 3 Plugin Support for FREE has announced Steinberg's Virtual Studio Technology 3 (VST3) compatibility for most of its audio plug-ins. Already available in VST2, AAX, Audio Unit, RTAS and DirectX formats on Windows and Mac, Blue Cat Audio's wide range of professional audio processors now expand to the VST3 platform for enhanced compatibility with both 32 and 64-bit VST3 applications. Blue Cat Audio will be demoing VST3 versions of the plug-ins at the NAMM Show on booth #6331.
New versions of the plug-ins will be available in February as a free update for existing customers. A preview of (Blue Cat Audio's free plug-ins) is already available for download today on. Existing customers also have access to the preview of the, and Mixer plug-ins, for enhanced external side chain support in VST3 hosts. I got a chance to talk to Blue Cat at NAMM - I didn't realize they were a French company. Anyway, they are going to do something significant with Plug & Script.
Currently you can create a script-based processor that can only run by other owners of Plug & Script. They are wisely (IMO) going to either offer a free player VST to run scripts (but not program them) or an ability to create self-contained executable plug-ins.
Either way, I think they'll attract a lot of buyers now those buyers can distribute their creations to a wide base of potential users. Also, there will reportedly be a capability to exit to native C code for performance-critical processing. This thing is turning into a pretty serious tool. It's one to watch, for sure.
